Hudson Valley Tai Chi
Tai Chi Chuan
Tai Chi is a slow moving, meditative martial art that when practiced daily can improve balance, flexibility and self-awareness.
Tai Chi is a slow-moving meditative exercise for relaxation, health and self-defense. Originally from China, Tai Chi is practiced in this country primarily for its health benefits. It is a physical manifestation of the Taoist philosophy, embracing the principles of yin/yang by accessing meridians of energy, to assist the body with balance, harmony and inner peace. It can provide benefits to the mind, body and spirit, while adding inner and outer strength..
Hudson Valley Tai Chi instructors, Chris DeRoller and Bobbie Kosnick, will be teaching the Yang Short Form or Cheng Man-Ching form, the national form of Taiwan, which is a sequence of 37 postures and transitions. Classes will consist of instruction in postures, qigong (energy work), and relaxation techniques in order to increase balance, flexibility and strength, as well as the meditative qualities of relaxation and inner calm. Advanced classes focus on form correction, application and partner energy work.
According to Sifu Jill Basso, founder of Hudson Valley Tai Chi, “Daily practice can improve concentration, centering and bring mindful thought into your life”. It is easily practiced in your home. Books/DVDs will be made available to complement the class.
Fall, Winter and Spring beginner classes will be held on Wednesday mornings at the Morris Memorial Building, Park Row in Chatham, NY. Classes are open to adults and youth over the age of 14.
